LISTED TIMES ARE GMT

A Word About Timings

All timings are listed in both Greenwich Mean Time and Eastern Daylight Time. North America and Europe are now on Daylight Time. For those of you who live in other time zones, you will need to make a calculation to derive the time of an event where you live. In North America subtract four (4) hours (from GMT) for the Eastern Time Zone, five (5) hours for the Central Time Zone, and six (6) hours for the Mountain Time Zone. Subtract seven (7) hours for the Pacific Time Zone, eight (8) hours for Alaska, and nine (9) hours for Hawaii. UK, Ireland and Portugal add one (1) hour to GMT. In most of the rest of Europe add two (2) hours (some Eastern European countries are three (3) hours ahead of GMT). In the Southern Hemisphere, Australia and New Zealand are on Daylight Time (Australia is 11 hours ahead of GMT; New Zealand is 13 hours ahead of GMT).

For those in the United States, it is useful to keep in mind that broadcasts in the evening hours often appear in the NEXT day's listings because they occur in the small hours in GMT time, which is our primary reference in the following listings.

For more information on time zone calculations, double click the time display on the lower right of your screen (if you are using a PC) to display the Time Zone tab, then click on the drop-down menu for a full list of time zones and their relationships to Greenwich Mean Time. You may also let the TIME CONVERTER do the calculations for you.

KEY TO READING THE SCHEDULE

The Link to the Station Name is to the Station's HOME PAGE | MP3 and OGG VORBIS streams are playable on the WINAMP player | RP = Real Player | WMP = Windows Media Player | indicates a SCALED audio stream - the stream is accessible to those with connections slower than the rated speed of the stream (see the Internet Radio for Techies page for a complete explanation of "scaling" and the Stations page for details about how a specific station applies it) | M indicates a MONO stream; all others are STEREO

Also auch Jupiter.

Junon: Juliette Perret, Sopran

The WWFM Sunday Opera: Camille Saint-Saens' "Henry VIII"

Camille Saint-Saens wrote twelve operas in all, and we’ll be enjoying one of them on this week’s Sunday Opera, and it’s not “Samson et Dalila” which seems to be the only one done with any regularity and the only one to be done at the Metropolitan Opera. “Henry VIII,” which has a libretto by Leonce Detroyat and Armand Silvestre which was based on “The Schism in England” by Pedro Calderon de la Barca, had its premiere on March 5, 1883 and looks at the period in Henry’s life where he tries to dissolve his marriage to Katherine of Aragon so that he can marry the doomed Anne Boleyn.

The recording to which we’ll be listening comes from 1991 and features Philippe Rouillon, Michele Command, Lucile Vignon, and Alain Gabriel with the Arts Theatre Chorus of Rouen and the Lyric Orchestra of France with Alain Guingal conducting.

After the opera, the afternoon will be filled with one more piece by a young Saint-Saens. He wrote five symphonies in all, but only four of them were given numbers. His Symphony No. 1 in E flat was completed when the composer was only seventeen years old, and although it offered nothing groundbreaking, its juxtaposition of forms and motifs was enough to garner him quite a bit of praise. Playing it here will be the Orchestre National de la RTF with Jean Martinon conducting. (3 hrs., 30 min.)
