LISTED TIMES ARE GMT

A Word About Timings

All timings are listed in both Greenwich Mean Time and Eastern Daylight Time. North America and Europe are now on Daylight Time. For those of you who live in other time zones, you will need to make a calculation to derive the time of an event where you live. In North America subtract four (4) hours (from GMT) for the Eastern Time Zone, five (5) hours for the Central Time Zone, and six (6) hours for the Mountain Time Zone. Subtract seven (7) hours for the Pacific Time Zone and eight (8) hours for Alaska, and nine (9) hours for Hawaii. UK, Ireland and Portugal are one (1) hoour ahead of GMT. In most of the rest of Europe add two (2) hours (some Eastern European countries are three (3) hours ahead of GMT). In the Southern Hemisphere, Australia and New Zealand are still on Daylight Time (Australia is 11 hours ahead of GMT; New Zealand is 13 hours ahead of GMT).

For those in the United States, it is useful to keep in mind that broadcasts in the evening hours often appear in the NEXT day's listings because they occur in the small hours in GMT time, which is our primary reference in the following listings.

For more information on time zone calculations, double click the time display on the lower right of your screen (if you are using a PC) to display the Time Zone tab, then click on the drop-down menu for a full list of time zones and their relationships to Greenwich Mean Time. You may also let the TIME CONVERTER do the calculations for you.

(1 hr., 30 min.)

Juanjo Mena brings an evening of music from his native Spain to the Bridgewater Hall to celebrate his last Manchester concert as Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic.
Falla's opera 'La vida breve', brings colourful, descriptive music, infused with Spanish dance rhythms to a heart-breaking story of unrequited love and class inequality. The BBC Philharmonic is joined by Spanish soloists and Madrid-based choir, Coro RTVE. Martin Roscoe joins the orchestra for Albeniz's 'Rapsodia española' and the concert opens with more music by Albeniz, the Overture to his opera 'The Magic Opal'. Written when the composer was living in England at the end of the nineteenth century it provides a sparkling opening to the concert. (2 hrs., 30 min.)

Opera: Charles Gounod - 200 let
17. 6. uplyne 200 let od narození významného francouzského operního skladatele, ; autora dodnes celosvětově nejuváděnějších oper Faust a Markétka a Romeo a Julie. ; Gounodovu hudbu připomeneme nahrávkou z r. 1979 méně známé, ale hudebně hodnotné a krásné, pastorálně laděné opery Mireille.
Zpívají M. Freni (Mireille), A. Vanzo (Vincent), J.van Dam (Ourrias) ad. Sbor a Orchestru Kapitolu v Toulouse, řídí M. Plasson. (4 hrs., 1 min.)
